Similar to other states, individuals who want to work in the cosmetology field must earn a cosmetology license in New Jersey. To earn a cosmetology license, you must complete a program at a licensed school and take the state exam. In order to meet state licensing requirements, cosmetology schools must provide a 1200-hour training program in cosmetology, a 600-hour training program in Esthetics and a 600-hour training program for instructor training.
