The State Board of Cosmetologists is responsible for overseeing the licensing of cosmetologists, nail technicians, estheticians, barbers and other personal care employees in Pennsylvania. Before applying for the state exam and earning a cosmetology license in Pennsylvania, aspiring cosmetologists must complete a 1250-hour program at a licensed school. Training programs for estheticians must be at least 300 hours long, nail technology programs must be 200 hours long and teacher training programs must be 500 hours long.

Earning a Cosmetology License in New Jersey

The New Jersey State Board of Cosmetology and Hairstyling is the agency that oversees the licensing of cosmetologists, nail technicians, barbers and estheticians in the state. Similar to other states, individuals who want to work in the cosmetology field must earn a cosmetology license in New Jersey. To earn a cosmetology license, you must complete a program at a licensed school and take the state exam. In order to meet state licensing requirements, cosmetology schools must provide a 1200-hour training program in cosmetology, a 600-hour training program in Esthetics and a 600-hour training program for instructor training.
